This series is on what the word 'beauty' truly means, which is entirely subjective, and its definition within American culture towards women. Each image has a different critique on the nature of our culturally constructed meaning of beauty and a different additional inspiration.

The blue background is used to symbolize the way that beauty in US culture is a male defined concept imposed on women, and the contrasting pink accents are used because pink is associated with women and femininity. Barbie is used for all the images because she is the quintessential characterization of beauty standards within the US: white, stick thin, blonde, and pretty.

Additional commentary these images make are on plastic surgery, traditional depictions of women in art, the modeling and advertising industries depiction and treatment of women and their bodies, mental health consequences among women, and the lack of importance placed on women's intellectual abilities and achievements.
